Mewis at the double for Man City

Manchester City kept up the pressure on Chelsea with a 4-0 result at Birmingham City, ahead of their midweek Champions League tie.

Ellen White brought a great stop from Hannah Hampton but Man City eventually took the lead in the 40th minute, with a Sam Mewis header.

The points were tied up with a quickfire brace within ten minutes of the resumption, Mewis getting her second following a goal-line clearance, moments before Lauren Hemp made it 3-0.

White then set up Caroline Weir for a tap in on 65 minutes, Rose Lavelle later clipping the hosts’ crossbar.

Gunners’ second-half show sinks Villa

Aston Villa held Arsenal for the best part of an hour but eventually fell to a 4-0 defeat, as the Gunners kept up hopes of a European place.

Villa were looking to hold the Gunners to a goalless first 45 but it needed a smart fingertip save from Lisa Weiss to keep out a deflected Jordan Nobbs effort.

Danielle van de Donk volleyed over the top but shortly afterwards, Vivianne Miedema broke the deadlock with a close-range finish before the hour mark from Beth Mead’s ball

Miedema could have doubled the lead herself but it was Nobbs who netted the second midway through the half on the follow-up to the Dutch striker’s effort.

Katie McCabe made it 3-0 when finding the top corner from outside the box, then turned provider for Lisa Evans to nod in a late fourth.

Gauvin’s penalties set up Everton win

Everton took the points at Tottenham with Jill Scott’s decider, despite having let slip a two-goal lead.

Tottenham’s Angela Addison was blocked out by Danielle Turner at the last moment, before Ria Percival was penalised for handball in the box and Valerie Gauvin placed the resulting penalty past Aurora Mikalsen.

The visitors won and converted a second penalty with less than 20 minutes played, Gauvin opting for the opposite corner of the net.

Spurs replied ten minutes before the break, Addison sent clear to chip Sandy MacIver, after which Rosella Ayane could have well made it 2-2 at the interval.

Gemma Davison did level up the game with a half-volley, only for Jill Scott to be allowed a near-post header to restore the Toffees’ advantage,

Hayley Raso was set to make it 4-2 but for an excellent save by Mikalsen to keep her side in it.
