Chelsea remain two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, following a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Academy Stadium.

There was a rush of three goals in ten first-half minutes, begun with a firm header from a corner by Chelsea’s Sam Kerr.

Manchester City were quickly level when Lauren Hemp crossed the ball into the box, for Chloe Kelly to steer home.

Kerr then won a penalty with a strong run into the area, which ended when she was brought down by Ellie Roebuck. Pernille Harder stepped up to calmly despatch the resulting spot-kick.

The hosts might have gone in level at the break but a Lucy Bronze hook shot was tipped over the bar by Ann-Katrin Berger.

Going into the last quarter of an hour, defensive errors led to Hemp firing Manchester City back on level terms.

Hemp then went desperately close to scoring again, as Berger brilliantly tipped her header onto the crossbar.

Bronze headed wide for City in stoppage-time and at the death Roebuck denied Kerr the winner.
