Bayern sporting director Max Eberl spoke about the reputation of the Bundesliga after FC Bayern’s semi-final appearance in the Champions League and couldn’t resist a little side-swipe in the direction of the English Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern are the first two Bundesliga clubs to reach the semi-finals of the top flight since 2013. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid complete the last four.

Strikingly, no English club has made it through to the CL semi-finals. The last time this happened was four years ago, in the 2019/20 season. A good omen for Bayern: the German record champions were able to secure the trophy back then.

„That’s great for the Bundesliga“

In the past, the Bundesliga has repeatedly been referred to as the Farmers League. The German top flight does not necessarily have the best reputation, especially in England. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl’s satisfaction after progressing against Arsenal was correspondingly great: „Farmers League? You could see that today. No English club is in the semi-finals, but two Bundesliga clubs are. That’s great for the Bundesliga. We’ve set an exclamation mark.“

Eberl would have nothing against a German CL final in London, as in 2013: „Even if I can only speak for us, but now both want even more,“ he emphasised.
