Pundit Jamie Redknapp has praised Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones for his performance against Southampton at St Mary's last night.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp started the 21-year-old against the Saints and he did not disappoint.

The Scouser registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.21 for his 90-minute performance.

With that being the case, Redknapp was very complimentary towards Jones once the Premier League fixture had concluded.

“I looked at Curtis Jones tonight, I thought he was fantastic,” he told Sky Sports Premier League (17/05/22 at 10:15pm BST).

“He was probably the second-best player on the pitch for me.

“The way that he ran around and chased. He’s such a talented young player. But he buys into everything Jurgen Klopp wants him to do.”

Liverpool ended up defeating Southampton 2-1.

Anfield Watch Verdict

It was pleasing to see Jones stand up last night. Liverpool had to win to keep the title race alive, so Klopp needed one or two players to lead the way against the Saints.

On another note, Jones has had a very promising start to his senior career. The midfielder has scored eight goals and registered 10 assists in 74 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

However, Jones is yet to become a regular in Klopp's startng XI.

But, the exciting thing about Jones is that he is still very young. Therefore, it would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished product.

We don't expect Jones, whose contract does not expire until the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign, to voluntary leave Liverpool in the future. He is a Scouser at heart after all.

Hopefully Jones can go on and have a long/successful career at Anfield. Only time will tell if that is to be the case.
