Fans Have Their Say After Worrying Performance Yesterday

There are not many players who could hold their heads high after what was a poor performance at newly-promoted Norwich City yesterday in the 3-1 loss.

Newcastle were outclassed and outplayed from the first whistle to the last and our once water-tight defense was taken apart and conceded three goals.

It could have been even worse if the Canaries had taken the three chances they had before they finally scored after 32 minutes with their striker Teemu Pukki getting a hat-trick.

With only one goal between the sides at the half, we were still in with a chance.

But we continued with the same poor form and low energy and allowed two very poor goals in the second half before Jonjo Shelvey scored three minutes into stoppage time.

Norwich deserved to win the game yesterday by mo0re than two goals and in a sense, we were a little lucky to get off so lightly.

It’s only two games gone and two defeats but far too early to panic.

But the pressure will be on head coach Steve Bruce to get some points on the board soon.

Norwich striker Teemu Pukki scores the first goal after 32 minutes – it got worse

While it’s true we had only three draws and seven defeats in our first ten games last season Steve Bruce will not be given the time to turn it around as Rafa was given last season.

Rafa is world-class and he had earned the right and trust to save Newcastle, which he did the last two seasons after a terrible run of results in each season.

However, we must keep supporting Steve and the players and hope the Geordie manager can get more out of the players than he has so far.

And we still think this is a (slightly) better and more balanced squad than we had last season.

Only a few players like Martin Dubravka and Isaac Hayden as two examples, maintained their level of form yesterday.

We hope this is just a bad day at the office and not the way we will continue to play.

Where was that well-drilled defense of last season yesterday?

Next game is at Tottenham next Sunday and that’s a big test for the lads and for Steve Bruce too.

We hope we can take something out of the game or at least make it a close game.

Another poor display and results in seven days will not help anything.

And in the next eight league games, we have to face four top-six sides in Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea and also have games against Leicester, Watford, and Wolves.

That’s a very tough schedule – to say the least.

Here are some comments from fans after yesterday’s poor and rather alarming display.

First here’s Steve’s press conference after the game.
