“Fanbase will be very happy” - Kevin Nagle drops exciting Huddersfield Town transfer hint ahead of January | OneFootball

Town have the potential to be active in the transfer market when 2025 rolls around.

Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has revealed that moves are already being made by the Terriers ahead of the January transfer window.

Because of the attention that has been on some of the surrounding clubs, Huddersfield have gone under the radar a touch this season. They are just six points off the automatic promotion spots with a game in hand on Wrexham in third, who are five points ahead them.

There are a lot of interesting stories surrounding all the top sides in the third tier this season. The financial juggernaut that is Birmingham City, Stockport County and Wrexham as the newcomers, Reading's ownership woes, even Bolton Wanderers and Ian Evatt's position at the club.

With all this going on, the Terriers have got a bit lost in the media mix, but they are well in with a chance of securing a return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

To do so, a strong January window may be required. Michael Duff has a good squad to work with, but there is an acknowledgment that improvements can be made. Their owner's latest message has addressed any concerns that supporters may have had.

Kevin Nagle's Huddersfield January transfer window revelation

Huddersfield will have money that they can spend in the new year, with some deals already being worked on, according to Nagle.

He revealed this in his latest diary entry on X when he said, via Yorkshire Live: "We’ve already been working on it, and Mark (Cartwright) and Jake (Edwards) have been active, really mostly Jake, and we’ve actually made some moves.

"We can’t announce those as yet, they need to be finalised, but barring a shock, I believe the fanbase will be very happy. We listened to them, [alongside] what the gaffer needs, and then also talking to Mark along with the recruitment team, and hopefully we’ll see some things that will make everybody happy."

Kevin Nagle has dropped striker hints

Town could probably do with some help up top in the new year, something that the owner has already recognised. Their current top scorer is midfielder Ben Wiles, who has six goals, with forward Josh Koroma (five) and defender Matthew Pearson (four) close behind.

"You can never have enough strikers, that’s the first thing," Nagle told BBC Radio Leeds. "They get injured, they hit a dry spell. Sometimes they just have that year where they’re not as successful, so let’s just say this much. We might have a striker, maybe even more.

"I feel pretty good about it right now (that they’ll get a striker in), I think that we’ve worked really hard. There are some things we might get as well, we need insurance in certain areas. You can look at the club, where our strength is, where we’re a little bit thin.

"The bottom line is, we want to be promoted. We know that we had to make a couple of changes, we’re in fourth place right now, and I think that by the end of January, you’ll be very happy with what we’ve got."

Huddersfield's defensive record will be a big help in their promotion push

As much as there may be a focus on recruiting attacking talent in the upcoming window, what could get the Terriers over the line at the end of the season is their strength at the back.

Birmingham and Wrexham are the only teams in League One with a better defensive record than Huddersfield, and they have scored as many goals as the Welsh side.

Offensive firepower can win you games, but defence wins you titles and promotion.
