Vinicius Junior is arguably one of the most hated players in European football, no thanks to the foul treatment he often receives from opposition fans in La Liga.

Stadiums across Spain have witnessed immense hate against the Real Madrid forward, with fans often throwing racial slurs at the Brazilian.

This has led to widespread controversy, with many pointing to the Spanish Football Federation for not taking any conclusive action. As a result, the Spanish authorities have grown more sensitive to fans’ treatment towards Vinicius.

Fan fined €60,001 for abusing Vinicius on X

In a significant development, a fan has been slapped with a hefty fine of €60,001 and a two-year ban from attending any sporting events after being found guilty of repeatedly abusing Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. on the social media platform X, reports COPE.

The sanction, proposed by the Spanish Sports Council’s Anti-Violence Commission, marks a clear statement of intent to clamp down on racist behaviour within Spanish football.

The individual was identified as the perpetrator behind a series of racist insults and images directed at the Brazilian forward.

Furthermore, the authorities have referred the case to the public prosecutor’s office to determine whether the offences constitute a hate crime.

Not an isolated incident

This is not an isolated incident. Another fan has been proposed a similar sanction for racially abusing players during a match between Athletic Club and Valencia CF.

Notably, this individual was already serving a two-year ban from stadiums for previous offences.

Deportivo Alaves have also come under fire, facing a potential fine of €50,000 for their association with the ultra group Iraultza 1921.

The club have been accused of supporting the group through its official website, and numerous references to the group have been found in graffiti around the Mendizorroza stadium.
