Ajax were beaten by Anderlecht on Saturday afternoon as a former player and late collapse all contributed to a disappointing defeat.
Scorers: Dolberg 12′, Aertssen OG 80′, Rahman 90+4′
Ahead of his likely €21m move to Fulham, defender Calvin Bassey was left out of the Ajax defence, which conceded on 12 minutes to a familiar face as former forward Kasper Dolberg came back to haunt them.
Collecting Louis Patris’ low pass from the right, he breezed past a challenge inside the area before picking out the far corner with a high finish for the only goal of the half.
Mohammed Kudus went close to an equaliser only to be denied by a heroic last ditch block which proved all the more crucial when a late Olivier Aertssen own goal put the result beyond doubt.
A miserable day at the office was compounded deep into injury-time when Benito Rahman added a third for Anderlecht.
