Posting photos of his return on social media, Diedhiou released the following message.

“Good to come back at @ashtongatestadium take a bit time to watch @bristolcityfc and pictures with fans.” he wrote on Instagram.

Diedhiou had previously been a star at Ashton Gate, joining the club on a four year deal in 2017.

During his spell with the Robins, the six foot four forward made 169 appearances for the club, scoring 51 goals and registering nine assists.

Diedhiou’s contract with Bristol City expired last summer and that is when the forward departed the club, opting to join Turkish Super Lig side Alanyaspor on a four year deal.

1. When did Nigel Pearson become the temporary Bristol City boss?

December 2020 January 2021 February 2021 March 2021

At Alanyaspor this season, Diedhiou has made 24 appearances for the Turkish club, scoring 10 goals in those matches.

Recently, Diedhiou was also a part of the Senegalese squad that lifted the ‘2021 Africa Cup of Nations’ that was held in January.

The Verdict

It’s always nice to see players maintaining a good relationship with the club and fans after leaving and it’s no different here with Diedhiou.

The Senegalese forward has had a successful year so far and is busy in Turkey, but still took the time to make a trip to Ashton Gate to watch Bristol play.

This demonstrates the very real affection he has towards the club.

He seemed more than happy to take time to have photos with the fans, too, so they clearly don’t have any hard feelings towards him with regards to leaving the club when his contract came to an end.
