Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri has made the latest Uruguay squad, while veteran strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have been overlooked for the friendlies against Japan and South Korea.

Interim manager Marcelo Broli also decided to leave the likes of Diego Godin and Jose Maria Giminez out for the matches later this month. All of this would suggest that Uruguay are trying to move on, under a different generation, and that bodes well for Pellistri.

The young forward was handed a rare start for United in the Europa League against Real Betis last night. After the game, Erik ten Hag praised the attacking prospect on his performance, but Pellistri was unlucky to pick up a harsh yellow card in the first half.

On the international stage, however, Pellistri has been getting plenty of starts.

The 23-man squad includes several uncapped players, including goalkeeper Santiago Mele, left-back Joaquin Piquerez, midfielder Felipe Carballo and forward Matias Arezo.
