AC Milan’s Champions League fate will be key in deciding whether Fikayo Tomori is signed permanently from Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Despite having been top for the majority of the Serie A season, the Rossoneri have found themselves in a fierce fight for the top four along with Atalanta, Napoli, Juventus and Lazio.

The Champions League money is a big factor in how the management will be able to conduct their summer market as the 32 teams participating in the competition were guaranteed revenues of around €60m on average.

Nonetheless, Tomori has been fantastic since his arrival on loan with an option to buy and there have been suggestions that Maldini and Massara will not hesitate to trigger the €28m option they have, though of course a top four finish would make such an investment more manageable.

Speaking on his podcast Here We Go, Fabrizio Romano offered his latest on the situation.

“My personal feeling talking with people close to Fikayo Tomori, is that the Champions League spot for Milan would be the key. If they qualify, they could be like ready to pay his buy option or plan about it,” he said (via R1F).
