Mason Greenwood has sparked his career back to life after a season-long loan at Spanish outfit Getafe, with the English winger widely regarded as one of La Liga’s outstanding attackers this term.

Greenwood joined Getafe on deadline day last year and he quickly became a permanent fixture in their starting lineup, scoring eight goals in the league so far.

The move to Spain came after the club announced that it had come to an agreement with the player that it would be better if his career continued elsewhere.

Now, journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on United’s stance regarding Greenwood’s future, insisting the Reds are standing firm and have not changed their plans.

“I already reported that Man United are prepared to cash in on Mason Greenwood and the situation hasn’t changed,” Romano told the CaughtOffside’s Daily Briefing.

“Man United will wait for permanent transfer proposals because the priority is a sale in order to make profit for Financial Fair Play, although Getafe still hope to keep him on loan.”

The Old Trafford club will hope to maximise their earnings on any sale of Greenwood as Romano points out, with funds generated through sales potentially being crucial to a successful summer transfer window.

It remains unclear how INEOS will tackle their first transfer window running the club but there are a number of players that could be sold to secure funds.

Jadon Sancho is another player who looks to be on the way out after falling out with Erik ten Hag. The former Manchester City youngster made headlines earlier this week for his performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
