FC Barcelona have been the best team in Europe so far this season, dominating both La Liga and the Champions League. Except for one loss each in the league and in the continental stage, both under extraordinary circumstances, Hansi Flick’s team have been flawless.
So many players have stepped up for the club in recent months. There have been players who have completely turned their career around at Barcelona like Raphinha and Lewandowski. There have also been a few breakout stars but none more so than Marc Casado.
The €15m-rated Barcelona midfield gem has emerged as the engine room for Barcelona under Hansi Flick. He has single-handedly solved the club’s pivot woes and established himself as an undroppable asset of the German coach’s team. His performances this season have been on par or even better than some of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
Understandably, as is always the case, when a new player breaks out from La Masia into the first team, the Premier League clubs start to circle. Marc Casado is now generating interest from top clubs in England, although reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on links between him and Premier League clubs.
Here is what he had to say: “Links between Premier League clubs and Marc Casadó are being played down as he’s untouchable for Barça. Hansi Flick and Deco both see Casadó as a key part of the project. €100m release clause has also been included into his new contract.”
Over the years, Premier League clubs have had mixed success trying to poach La Masia talents. The likes of Gerard Pique in the past and Marc Guiu and Louie Barry since have all made moves to English clubs and had varying degrees of success.
However, Marc Casado bleeds Blaugrana. He wears the heart on his sleeve every single time he is on the pitch. He put the body on the line on every single occasion. The 21-year-old is an indispensable cog of the Hansi Flick machine. It comes as no surprise that the club is including a €100m release clause in his new contract.
Everything points to the Spaniard having a great career at Barcelona. He might not have had as much hype as some other players when he came into the first team but his performances have been some of the best the club has seen in recent times. Let’s wait and see how his career plays out.
