Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool will not be signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham this summer.

The reporter said that the Reds are interested in the 18-year-old. However, Romano further added that Bellingham has agreed to remain at Borussia Dortmund for the entire 2022-23 campaign.

“There is no chance for Jude Bellingham to leave Borussia Dortmund before summer 2023,” he told Caught Offside.

“The player made this decision together with the club in a meeting in February, he will stay at Borussia for another year.

“Liverpool are certainly interested for next summer – his talent and personality make him look like the perfect fit for a Jurgen Klopp team – but there is absolutely no definite deal because so many clubs want Jude and it will be an open race.”

Bellingham's contract expires in the summer of 2025. He possesses a current market value of £67.50 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

We would love to see Liverpool sign Bellingham in the near future, as he is a terrific young player. The midfielder has scored 10 goals and registered 18 assists in 90 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team.

Bellingham also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.12 across 32 Bundesliga matches this season.

The aforementioned figures highlight that the 18-year-old is well beyond his years.

Bellingham could also play in Liverpool's midfield for well over a decade. However, spending another season at Borussia Dortmund could be quite beneficial for the youngster.

Bellingham is a regular starter for the Bundesliga side, so he will only continue to improve by playing consistent senior football.

If Bellingham signed for Liverpool this summer, he would be competing against the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, and Fabinho for a place in Jurgen Klopp's midfield.

Therefore, he probably wouldn't get as much game time at Anfield. But, those players will eventually move on (all above 28 years of age), which is why we want to see the club sign Bellingham in the near future.
