Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak remains one of the summer’s defining stories, with Fabrizio Romano providing a clear update on his YouTube channel in a discussion featuring his colleague Matteo Moretto.
Romano stated, “Liverpool have a feeling that Newcastle are still very active on the striker market… Alexander Isak wants to go to Liverpool… has no intention to return to a normal conversation with Newcastle for new contracts.” This is the most direct indication yet that the Swedish forward’s preference is firmly towards Anfield, and that Arne Slot’s side will not give up easily in their chase.
The Italian journalist emphasised that “Liverpool keep hoping, Liverpool maintain their confidence in trying to make the deal happen for Alexander.” According to his report, Liverpool will “maintain their contacts active on player side” throughout the week.
The situation is closely linked to Newcastle’s own transfer activity. With the signing of defender Malick Thiaw now complete, Romano revealed, “Newcastle are still looking… for a midfielder, an offensive midfielder and a striker.” Their search for a replacement could be decisive in whether Isak is allowed to leave.
Romano noted that Newcastle’s list of striker targets includes Nicolás Jackson. He was clear that “Jackson is not the only one” being considered. Addressing speculation around Randal Kolo Muani, Romano said, “No confirmation at all on the rumours… Kolo Muani is in negotiations with Juventus.”
The forward search remains central to the Isak story. Romano concluded that “the plan of Alexander Isak remains Liverpool and Liverpool’s plan remains to sign Alexander Isak.”

While Liverpool’s Isak pursuit dominated later stages of the update, Romano also covered significant moves elsewhere. In a joint segment with Matteo Moretto, he confirmed Tottenham are advancing talks with Manchester City to sign Savinho, noting, “The deal is possible, the player is open to the move.” This collaboration between the two reporters added credibility to the story, especially with Tottenham’s midfield injury problems creating urgency.
Earlier, Romano addressed false reports, saying, “Ferran Torres is not negotiating with Al Nassr… they are not working on Ferran.” Similarly, Barcelona midfielder Fermín López publicly stated, “I’m staying… I’m going nowhere,” ending any talk of a move to Manchester United.
With three weeks left in the summer transfer window, Romano’s insight leaves little doubt about where Isak’s priorities lie. Liverpool’s persistence, Newcastle’s recruitment activity, and the player’s own stance point towards a potentially dramatic conclusion before the deadline.
As Romano summarised, “It’s not over at all… the conversation will continue.” For Liverpool supporters, those words will fuel belief that the club can secure a striker who could define the Slot era.
