The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are keen on a permanent deal for Tel, who cost Bayern £17 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Rennes in the summer of 2022.

Romano has added that there are as many as seven loan offers on the table for Tel.

View: Chelsea should not sign Mathys Tel

Tel is a very good and promising young forward, but he is 19 and is far from the finished article.

While the France Under-21 international could become a star in the coming years, Chelsea need to think of the here and now.

The Premier League club have to sign a top-quality striker in the January transfer window or in the summer of 2025.

Yes, Tel is a fine young forward, but he is not a proper number nine. That is what Chelsea, who have been impressed with how midfielder Andrey Santos is doing on his loan spell, need.

Moreover, Tel is not even guaranteed a place in the Bayern starting lineup, which shows just how raw he is.

The forward has given one assist in two starts and six substitute appearances in the Bundesliga and has made two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League so far this season.

Chelsea are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 40 points from 23 matches.

Enzo Maresca’s side are a point behind fourth-placed and defending champions Manchester City and are 13 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played 22 games.
