Manchester City will formally bid farewell to Kevin De Bruyne this week as the Belgian puts pen to paper on a deal with Serie A champions Napoli.

Officials at the Etihad Stadium opted not to offer the Belgium international renewed terms on his contract with the club, which is due to formally expire at the end of June after 10 remarkable seasons at Manchester City.

The decision marked the start of a significant overhaul of Pep Guardiola’s playing squad, as Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain plotted a number of alterations off the back of a hugely disappointing season across competitions.

De Bruyne appeared to disagree with the decision, feeling as though he was still capable of performing at the very highest level in European football, but in time was able to come to terms with the fact that his Manchester City career was coming to a close.

In the last few weeks and months, the 33-year-old playmaker has been inundated with possibilities in the game ranging from ventures out to the Middle-East, opportunities in Major League Soccer, and even tenuous claims of interest from within the Premier League.

However, a decision has now been made on where the legendary midfielder will ply his trade from next season, and that will not only include the defence of a top-five European division, but also the chance to feature in the UEFA Champions League once again.

According to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Kevin De Bruyne to Napoli can now be considered as a ‘Here We Go’ deal after the final green light arrived from the Belgian playmaker to join the reigning Italian champions this summer.

It is detailed that the 33-year-old will sign on to a two-year contract in Naples with the option of a further 12 months already agreed between all parties, and a medical plus formal steps to follow this week.

From the side of Manchester City, they are well on their way to completing their own summer transfer business early and also preparing themselves for life beyond arguably their greatest ever player.

Wednesday morning saw the club unveil their fourth new addition of the summer market and in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, with Tijjani Reijnders added to the midfield ranks as a box-to-box option for Pep Guardiola.

The Dutch international followed the likely successor to De Bruyne and Rayan Cherki arrived from Lyon in France, while Rayan Ait-Nouri bolstered the left-sided full-back position, and Marcus Bettinelli took on the role of third-choice goalkeeper after Scott Carson’s exit.
