The end of the transfer window is nigh and every single day matters if we're to get deals signed.

Leaving any business this late into the summer is less than ideal, but Liverpool have a couple of players that simply haven't budged yet and we're reaching the point where we need a final decision.

Liverpool certainly worked hard at the start of the window, with the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez all confirmed before the end of June. It was quite an opening salvo.

Throughout July, the club was understandably focused on supporting everyone dealing with the loss of Diogo Jota and it was only towards the end of the month that Hugo Ekitike's move was finalised.

Now we're facing down the barrel of a final splurge required to kickstart the season and fill in the final few gaps in Liverpool's squad - a centre-back and another striker are required, at the very least.

Club is engaged in daily talks

Fabrizio Romano has been incredibly reliable this summer, apart from a small few details on some of our signings in terms of transfer fees, and so when he posts an update on our business, it matters.

Speaking on his Youtube channel the Here We Go Podcast, he revealed an update on our situation.

He said: "Liverpool remain absolutely in active conversations to sign Alexander Isak and Alexander Isak remains with his mind set on a move to Liverpool this summer.

"The situation remains absolutely ON, the situation remains absolutely concrete, and the deal remains a strong possibility to happen for this summer transfer window.

"We are entering into the final three weeks, so time is not that much and but I can guarantee to you that Liverpool maintain daily contacts to make sure that they maintain control of the situation.

"They are ready, they want to be ready for the moment, if the moment will come when Newcastle say okay, we are ready to sell the player, let's negotiate."

In light of the fact that Liverpool are expected to only have three senior attackers, if we consider Wirtz a midfielder - with Federico Chiesa set to leave - the Isak news certainly sounds promising.

But we're not really any further forward then we were a few weeks ago. Reports are suggesting that any attempts Newcastle make to keep Isak will not be straightforward, whereas others confirm that the Magpies are in an untenable position, with the Swede's departure set to be an inevitable result.

Interest in Yohan Wissa and Nicholas Jackson suggest that enough reinforcements could be brought in to Eddie Howe's squad for Isak to become sellable, but we'll be looking at an extortionate fee.

Although Liverpool are not somewhat at the mercy of Newcastle, since the focus is primarily on Isak from the Reds' side and a striker signing is imperative. Eventually we need them to budge otherwise we'll be going into the season undermanned, with alternative targets likely to involve lengthy talks.

The daily communications are certainly positive to hear, and hopes of Isak becoming a Red should still be strong, but the situation arguably becomes less certain as each day passes by. It's going to be a little nip and tuck before the window closes, so strap in for what will be a rollercoaster ride.
