Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek will return to Old Trafford at the end of the season, following the expiry of his loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Van de Beek joined Frankfurt in January to escape his troubles in England and to go somewhere where he would be guaranteed significant first-team minutes.

However, it has not been smooth sailing in Germany for the midfielder, whose struggles to revive his career show no signs of slowing down.

He has so far managed just seven appearances in the Bundesliga and has amassed 346 minutes of top-flight action.

Often, the Netherlands international has been an unused substitute for Frankfurt. Van de Beek has started four games for the club and has been brought on in three other matches. He has yet to register a goal or assist for the side despite being deployed in advanced positions on the pitch.

During the weekend, he was given 24 minutes against VfB Stuttgart but couldn’t have the desired impact as they suffered a 3-0 loss at MHPArena.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that Frankfurt had not made a definitive decision on whether they wanted to keep Van de Beek permanently, despite earlier suggestions that they would cut him loose.

It was relayed that Dino Toppmöller’s side were still mulling over whether to trigger a buy-option worth around €10 million contained in the arrangement that was negotiated with United.

However, Romano has now given an update and explained that Frankfurt have made their decision and will part ways with Van de Beek.

The Italian journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Donny van de Beek will return to Man United in June.”

“The buy option clause (€11m plus €3m add-ons) into loan deal will not be triggered by Eintracht Frankfurt.”

“Dutch midfielder expected to look for new chapter, new club in the summer transfer window.”

It’s yet another blow for Van de Beek. The 26-year-old’s United contract elapses in the summer of 2025.
