FC Barcelona continue to find clarity in terms of which players to sign or renew as they move forward. While certain players offer answers right now, they might not be the ideal solutions for the future. Fortunately, Barcelona are aware of this as they continue to sort things out.
For instance, the club is already keen on renewing the contracts of key players who will likely offer a substantial impact next season. Raphinha’s stay at the club has already been extended, and Lamine Yamal’s new contract announcement only seems like a matter of time.
However, there is another player who is now reportedly on the verge of signing a new deal with the club as well. According to Fabrizio Romano, 35-year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is now also close to signing a new deal with La Blaugrana, adding further validity to recent reports.
Moreover, Romano has suggested that this has been a part of the club’s plans since March. Interestingly, the possibility of a renewal has been teased and hinted upon by the player himself as well previously this season. However, the journalist has stated that some formal steps still need to be taken first.
Either way, the Polish veteran has clearly proven his own quality and reliability this season. With Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s untimely injury, the Pole’s arrival brought some much-needed strength in between the posts, despite the fact that Inaki Pena was beginning to prove himself as well.

Now, however, only time will tell just how soon Barcelona can manage to get a deal agreed upon with Szczesny and his entourage. Moreover, with a player like Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia also linked to the Catalan club, that particular position might have some real contenders for next season.
As it stands, however, Barcelona need to first focus on the contractual situations of both Szczesny and Ter Stegen. Transfers can come later, but the club first needs to make sure that they are well-positioned to know exactly which positions to reinforce as a priority during this transfer window.
