More talks took place between Manchester United and Barcelona on Monday.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United verbally agreed to pay €65 million for Frenkie de Jong, but that figure will not be enough to convince Barcelona to sell.

Barcelona asked for €85/86m and an agreement is getting closer as the clubs discuss an add-ons package.

Romano added: “Work in progress between clubs.”

The La Liga giants clearly believe that they can get more money out of United, who will begin to look desperate if they go into the month of July without making a single signing.

This is making United fans feel impatient but it really just raises more questions about how the club is being run.

With Barcelona willing to sell and United desperate to buy, the only outcome I can see here is a good one for fans of our blog.

De Jong will be a welcome addition and a vast improvement on every central midfielder currently at the club.

A lot of senior players returned to Carrington for pre-season training, but the only new faces were Erik ten Hag, Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag.
