Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is set to move into management at Italian side Como.

Fabregas called time on his playing career earlier this year after a short spell with the Serie B side, before moving into a coaching role with the club’s u-19 team.

The Spaniard is now set to step up into a senior role at Como, who are sixth in Italy’s second tier and pushing for promotion to Serie A for the first time in two decades.

Como sacked head coach Moreno Longo at the weekend despite a 1-0 win at Ascoli, following a run of two wins from six league games.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Fabregas is in line to replace Longo, in what will be his first venture in senior management.

The 36-year-old won a host of major honours during a decorated playing career that took in spells at Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona, including two Premier League titles and a La Liga crown.

During his time in English football he recorded 111 assists, with only Ryan Giggs having managed more in the Premier League era.

Fabregas also formed part of the Spain team that dominated international football, winning three consecutive major tournaments between 2008 and 2012. He won 110 caps for La Roja, with only eight players having ever won more for the national team.
