Fabio Grosso has overtaken Gennaro Gattuso as the favourite to replace Laurent Blanc as manager at Olympique Lyonnais, according to L’Équipe.
Gattuso has thus far been the favourite to replace Blanc in the dugout at the Groupama Stadium. The Frenchman left the club by mutual consent on Monday. Lyon are currently bottom of Ligue 1 with just one point from four games.
However, as reported by L’Équipe, Gattuso is merely a default choice as John Textor looks to make a quick nomination before Sunday’s match against Le Havre. Contact with the Italian manager has been severed for the past 24 hours amidst an adverse reaction, both internally and externally, to his appointment.
Grosso, a Francophone who played at Lyon between 2007 and 2009 is now the favourite. Last season, he led Frosinone to the Serie B title, but instead of guiding the side in Serie A this campaign, he left in the summer. The opportunities, much to Grosso’s surprise, didn’t fall in his lap this summer, however, his arrival at Lyon could be quickly concluded, should all parties come to an agreement. L’Équipe report that as well as Habib Beye, there is a fourth manager in the running, however, the name of this mystery candidate is yet to be revealed.
