Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho has revealed that he is looking to help the club seal promotion to the Premier League by delivering the goods consistently at this level for the rest of the 2021/22 campaign.
The attacking midfielder’s promising displays during the opening stages of the current term resulted in him being named as the EFL’s Young Player of the Month for August earlier today.
After demonstrating glimpses of his talent last season, Carvalho has established himself as a key component on Marco Silva’s side following the club’s return to the Championship, and, these performances have garnered transfer interest from the likes of Real Madrid.
The 19-year-old managed to find the back of the net in three consecutive games against Huddersfield Town, Millwall and Hull City before featuring in Fulham’s 3-0 victory over Stoke City.
Sidelined for the Cottagers’ 1-0 defeat to Blackpool due to injury, Carvalho will be hoping to make a swift recovery from this particular issue.
Fulham will be looking to respond to this aforementioned setback by securing a positive result in their meeting with Birmingham City on Wednesday.
Speaking to the EFL’s official website about his plans for the season, Carvalho admitted: “It’s been an amazing start for me individually and the team which is the most important thing, and we’ll just look to keep going and keep striving to progress.
“My aim is to perform well this season and help Fulham get promoted which is what we collectively aspire to do.
“On an individual basis, try to win as many awards as I can, score goals and help the team with my performances.”
The Verdict
It is hardly a surprise that Carvalho is aiming to play a crucial role in helping Fulham secure an immediate return to the Championship as he is clearly brimming with confidence.
An extremely exciting young player, the midfielder has already demonstrated that he is more than capable of competing at this level.
As well as providing four direct goal contributions in five appearances for the Cottagers, Carvalho is also averaging an extremely impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.59 in the second-tier.
Providing that he is able to push on when he makes his return from injury, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Carvalho ends up achieving his goal for the season next year.
