An injury blow for Fabian Schar and potentially Newcastle United.

Media in Switzerland reporting (see below) that the central defender has been forced to pull out of the Swiss squad and their matches in March.

Swiss media organisation, 20 minutes, report that Fabian Schar hasn’t been able to join in with full training this week and on Thursday morning has now left the national squad, ahead of their games against England and Kosovo.

How bad the injury is and whether it impacts on Newcastle United remains to be seen.

The next NUFC match is in ten days time at Tottenham.

Fabian Schar is just one of countless players to have benefited by the departure of Steve Bruce and the arrival of Eddie How.

The Swiss international sat out the 4-0 home defeat to Man City but has started all of Eddie Howe’s other 17 Premier League matches, that have generated 26 points.

It would be cruel on Fabian Schar and Newcastle United, if the defender is ruled out through injury, as he and Dan Burn have been building what looks a very promising partnership in the centre of defence.

20 Minutes reporting – 24 March 2022:

‘Injured, Fabian Schar leaves the Swiss team

The Newcastle centre-back will not take part in the two friendlies at the end of the month. He’s hit his adductors.

After Yann Sommer (positive for Covid), Fabian Schär will also not participate in the March friendlies of the Swiss team. The central defender of Newcastle is indeed touched with the adductors and left the selection, Thursday.

Since the beginning of the week, the international with 69 caps has been training apart from the group as part of the training camp in Marbella. He will therefore not be able to perform at Wembley against England on Saturday, or in Zurich against Kosovo on Tuesday. Murat Yakin did not call anyone to replace him.’
