With just three rounds of the FA Women’s Super League to go, things are getting tight at the top and bottom of the table.

Here’s what happened.

Man City in the Red

Scorers: Dowie 16′, Kearns 47′; Hemp 27′

Manchester City were stunned by Liverpool as the Merseyside outfit beat Gareth Taylor’s side 2-1.

City thought they might have had a penalty after only three minutes as Khadja Shaw was fouled inside the area, the referee however decided it was a fair challenge.

They paid for that call soon after as Natasha Dowie, who returned to her hometown club earlier this month, scored her first goal back as she finished well after only 16 minutes.

City got an equaliser on the half hour mark though as Lauren Hemp headed in at the back post.

Into the second half and within a few minutes of the restart Liverpool had retaken the lead as Missy Bo Kearns rifled in.

Champions Chelsea hit Toffees for seven to keep title defence in their own hands

Scorers: Reiten 12′, Kerr 25′, Harder 33′, 81′, Ingle 44′, Fleming 45+2′, Cuthbert 90+2′

Chelsea put on a devastating display to remind everyone that the title is still very much in their hands with four league games to go.

The Blues are just four points behind Manchester United with two games in hand, meaning that if they win their remaining games, they will be crowned champions once again.

On this evidence, it appears likely as they hit Everton for seven, the first five goals coming in a first-half blitz.

Guro Reiten opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder added goals either side of the half-hour mark – Harder had come on for Kerr, who injured herself in the process of heading home.

They weren’t done there, Sophie Ingle and Jessie Fleming putting the result beyond doubt by half-time with two more brilliant finishes.

As one would expect, the game somewhat petered out after the break but in the final 10, Chelsea made it a sumptuous seven with goals from Harder (her second) and Erin Cuthbert.

It would be a brave person to bet against Emma Hayes’ side at this point.

Devastating Daly does it again

Scorers: Daly 14′ 55′ 63′, Lehmann 41′, Hanson 44′

Rachel Daly proved why she’s the best striker in the Women’s Super League at the moment with a hat-trick in Aston Villa’s 5-0 win over Reading.

Daly continued her astonishing form this season as she slid in to open the scoring for Villa after only 14 minutes.

It was Daly’s 18th of the campaign and she almost notched another one soon after but saw her long-range effort just go wide of the post.

Villa were in total ascendancy and got two goals late in the first half to all but seal the win.

Alisha Lehmann and Kirsty Hanson scored twice in three minutes to leave the Royals reeling.

After the break Daly was at it again as she grabbed her second of the game on 55 minutes and then got a hat-trick on the hour mark.

Brighton win basement battle

Scorers: Green 57′

Brighton secured a crucial victory over West Ham as Kayleigh Green’s header earned them all three points.

This was a battle at the bottom with Brighton aiming for a win that would take them four clear of basement side Reading.

And despite both teams creating some promising chances in the opening 45 minutes the deadlock remained broken going into the break.

Into the second half and it wasn’t long before Kayleigh Green opened the scoring for Brighton with a headed finish.

Three and easy for United

Scorers: Galton 32′, Russo 35′, Parris 53′

Manchester United cruised to a 3-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday which further cements their place at the top of the Women’s Super League standings.

Marc Skinner’s side could go six points clear at the top of the table with a win here as lowly Spurs aimed for the victory that would take them five clear of the bottom.

United started with a fearsome front three of Ella Toone, Alessia Russo and Leah Galton and it was Galton who had the first opportunity of the game as her close range effort was blocked on the line by Amy Turner.

Spurs had their own opportunity to break the deadlock just moments later as Beth England rounded Mary Earps but was tackled at the very last moment by Maya Le Tissier before she could get a shot away.

United were in almost complete control after that however and got their goal on 32 minutes as Galton was laid in and finished brilliantly with the outside of her left foot.

Russo then added a second three minutes later as the England international reacted quickest inside the area and volleyed in.

Into the second half and Nikita Parris wrapped up the three points on 53 minutes as she capitalised on some terrible defending to blast home from six yards.
