FA official Andy O'Boyle is being linked with the technical director's job at Manchester United.
Paul Mitchell is a name long-linked with Old Trafford, and a popular target among fans after success at the likes of Southampton, Tottenham, RB Leipzig and most recently AS Monaco. His personal ties with Ralf Rangnick and the much-needed large-scale rebuild on the pitch made Mitchell appear a perfect match.
The Telegraph, however, reports football chief John Murtough has someone else in mind. O'Boyle is the current head of elite development with the FA and the report says that United have approached him for the role.
O'Boyle's role at the FA sees him focus on implementing 'England DNA' at all levels of the men's and women's games to try and create a national team that is able to compete for trophies on the biggest stage.
During his time in the role, England has reached the semi-final of a World Cup and the final of the European Championships.
