How did the match play out?

Oxford did well to hold off the hosts for the majority of the first half but conceded an agonising goal just before the whistle.

The Championship’s joint top-scorer Shania Hayles opened up the scoring in the fifth minute of stoppage time, setting up for a fruitful second half.

Three minutes after the break, Jodie Hutton doubled the lead for the Vixens. The game was then put to bed thanks to goals from Jesse Woolley and Emily Syme in the 74th and 84th minute respectively.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, both clubs are in strong positions in their respective leagues. The two are both challenging for promotion and the U’s are yet to lose a league game so far this season.

They have proven to be difficult opposition to many teams, especially in the Southern Division.

Meanwhile, Bristol City have lost just one game in the Championship this season. They currently sit second, one point behind London City with a game in-hand.

How they reached the FA Cup fourth round

The draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup was made on December 12th last year. However, both teams had their own journey to get to this point, with Oxford’s significantly longer than Bristol’s. Let’s take a look at how they got to face each other.

In the first round proper, Oxford faced Chesham United, where they came out as 6-1 winners. In the next round, it was a trip down to Cornwall for the U’s to take on Liskeard Athletic.

Carly Johns bagged herself a hat-rick and they managed to win the game with a mammoth 13-0 scoreline.

Next up, it was back to Court Place Farm to take on Plymouth Argyle, a team they faced as their second game of the season. A comfortable 3-0 win saw them progress to the fourth round.

Bristol City entered the FA Cup in the third round. They progressed into the fourth round after beating Southampton 2-0. The two goals came from Syme and Hayles.

The draw for the FA Cup fifth round will take place on Monday, January 30th from 18.30 GMT.
