Many Wolves fans were left fuming during Arsenal’s match against Manchester City on Wednesday, as the entire City team surrounded the referee without a single booking.

Over the weekend, Wolves’ midfielder Mario Lemina was sent off for a second yellow card after protesting a decision. After the game, Ruben Neves explained what the referee had told him about the dismissal.

“So he told me there were two players running to him and because Mario was the third one he gave him a yellow card,” Neves revealed.

Wolves fans watching Arsenal’s game against Manchester City then noted that all 11 City players surrounded Anthony Taylor following his decision to award the Gunners a penalty.

None of the City players received a booking, including Ederson, who had fouled Eddie Nketiah as the striker took a shot before joining the group crowding the referee.

“We all knew referees would bottle it against the big clubs” said one Wolves fan on social media, with another asking “where have all the referees who appeared last week to defend the Wolves decision gone?”

Arsenal fans will also be interested to see whether the FA issue a charge for City’s repeated surrounding of the referee throughout Wednesday’s fixture.

The Gunners faced a couple of FA charges in January for appealing penalty decisions, so there’s no reason City shouldn’t receive the same punishment.
