Explained: Trossard’s absence from Belgium training

Leandro Trossard was missing from training with Belgium on Tuesday, but his absence is nothing to be concerned about.

Belgian outlet RTL Info report that whilst 17 players were present in training with the national team on Tuesday, Leandro Trossard was one of those missing from the session.

Fortunately, the absence isn’t due to injury or similar, but the Arsenal forward is simply being rested after playing on Sunday.

Trossard wasn’t the only absentee, with Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, Jan Vertonghen, Zeno Debast, and Arthur Theate also missing the session for similar reasons.

That will be a relief to Arsenal fans, with Eddie Nketiah still on his way back from injury and Gabriel Jesus only recently returning from an extended absence of his own.

Trossard had also had an injury setback earlier in March, missing Arsenal’s trip to Lisbon and rushing back to impress with assists in wins over Fulham and Crystal Palace.

His absence could have sparked speculation of a setback, but that’s not the case.

Trossard has been a regular for Belgium since 2020, making 24 appearances (nine starts). He’s likely to get a more pivotal role in the side in future, given the international retirement of Eden Hazard.

Hazard recently admitted he didn’t know why Trossard wasn’t already playing ahead of him, but the 28-year-old should now get his chance to be one of the main men in attack for his national team.
