Despite growing speculation around his future, Andreas Christensen has no intention of leaving Barcelona this summer.
In fact, according to SPORT, the Danish defender, who was widely tipped to depart at the end of the season, wants to fulfil his contract with the club, which runs until 2026.
The current campaign has been a frustrating one for Christensen. Frequent injuries and fitness setbacks have hampered his form and availability, leading to a significant drop in his status within the squad.
Under Hansi Flick, the defensive hierarchy has shifted. The emergence of Pau Cubarsi, the reliability of Inigo Martinez, the leadership of Ronald Araujo, and the versatility of Eric Garcia have all limited Christensen’s role in the side.
For months, the expectation was that a summer exit would suit both parties. Christensen would get the chance to relaunch his career elsewhere, while Barcelona would lighten the wage bill and make space for other options in defence.
However, he has changed his stance and is determined to stay and fight for his place, even if he has not received any updates from the club about a contract extension.

Christensen is believed to be planning talks with both Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco in the coming weeks.
His ambition is to put this difficult season behind him, regain his fitness, and prove that he can still be an important figure in the team.
He is not interested in an early exit or a loan deal. He wants to play his part in Flick’s project and earn his way back into the starting eleven.
Barcelona, however, find themselves in a complex situation regarding their defensive setup. Apart from having four defenders, they are in advanced talks with Jonathan Tah, who could arrive on a free transfer.
The Danish international’s desire to stay is admirable, but the reality is that he may face another season on the fringes if he cannot convince Flick that he offers something the others don’t.
