Joe Whitworth is next in a long line of goalkeepers coming from Crystal Palace, and Doncaster Rovers, Exeter City and Shrewsbury Town are all interested in signing the youngster on loan next season.
With both Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone ahead of the 20-year-old, the need for him to gain experience is crucial, and Crystal Palace would be willing to let him leave.
Captain of the under-21s side at Palace, he has featured heavily in England's youth teams and could be a crucial part of Oliver Glasner's team for years to come.
As reported by Alan Nixon, Doncaster and Exeter have both joined Shrewsbury in the race to sign him on loan, with a fourth unknown club also interested.
It was reported last week, that Salop were the first to inquire as to the possibility of signing the keeper for next season. With manager Paul Hurst all but confirming the departure of their reliable number one, Marko Marosi, the Shropshire-based side is desperate to sign a new keeper with backup Harry Burgoyne also leaving.
Meanwhile, Exeter City and Doncaster Rovers will be on the lookout as well, following Viljami Sinisalo and Thimothée Lo-Tutala both returning to their parent clubs.
As current Palace number one Dean Henderson spent a season under Paul Hurst at Shrewsbury, Salop may feel they are best placed out of all the clubs to entice Whitworth to the West Midlands.
Wherever he goes, the 20-year-old will likely have free rein over his decision and the League One sides may be more enticing than Doncaster.
Selhurst Park is currently a breeding ground for young English talent; Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi are just a few who are due big moves soon enough.
In Whitworth, they may have the next player who can prove himself at the highest level. Whilst a loan in League One is possibly below his ability, an emergence into men's football can only benefit him as a player.
At 5ft 9, he is a relatively small keeper but has proven himself in youth football. This campaign he was awarded U21 Player of the Season and was superb in their Premier League International Cup final win against PSV Eindhoven.
Born in Sutton, his performances last year earned him two senior appearances. Playing 90 minutes in defeats against Brighton and Arsenal.
Speaking to Palace TV, about his derby debut against the Seagulls, he said: “It was massive for me, being a Palace fan and playing for the senior team. It was massive for my family. It’s a really proud moment.
“I’ve supported Palace my whole life. My whole family are Palace fans. I started at Palace around Under-13s at the club, worked my way up and got here today.
“I had my family watching in the away end. I’m sure my brother was loving it! It’s amazing to have them here – a big moment for me and my family. It was unbelievable for [the Palace fans] to chant my name."
Whatever club Whitworth chooses, they will be getting a quality keeper, and it would be no surprise to see him display his wonderful ability in League One or Two.
