Bolton Wanderers defender Will Aimson is in advanced talks over a move to fellow League One side Exeter City, according to Football Insider.

Aimson arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium back in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer, after his contract at Plymouth Argyle had expired.

The defender has gone on to play 45 times for Wanderers, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

The 29-year-old has found himself down the pecking order at Bolton this season, with him only appearing three times in the club’s opening 20 league games.

However, the defender recently had a run in the side, starting seven consecutive games in League One, before being dropped for their last match which was against Forest Green Rovers in midweek.

Now, according to Football Insider, Aimson is in advanced discussions in regards to joining Exeter City.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and it seems that Bolton are happy to let the defender leave the club before the 11pm deadline on Tuesday.

Bolton are well stocked in the defensive area, as Aimson has found himself behind the likes of Ricardo Santos, George Johnston, Eoin Toal, and Gethin Jones this season.

The Verdict

Considering Aimson’s contract expires at the end of the season and he hasn’t been playing regularly this season, it makes sense for Bolton and the defender to part ways.

It is unclear what the deal involves, but it involves a player off the wage bill who hasn’t been playing much and obviously doesn’t feature in the plans of Ian Evatt.

Aimson has been a good servant for Bolton since he’s been at the club, and even though he hasn’t featured much, whenever he has played, he’s done his job.
