Lee Hendrie has commented on Jack Robinson’s future at Sheffield United amid summer links to Wrexham.
Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has cast doubt over Sheffield United signing off a move for Jack Robinson to Wrexham given the Blades’ defensive fragilities last weekend against Bristol City.
The Blades suffered a shock 4-1 defeat at Bramall Lane at the hands of the Robins, with the side looking disjointed in Ruben Selles’s first competitive game as boss.
This has raised concerns for supporters just one game into the Spaniard’s tenure, with a drastic change needed in the system to keep the Yorkshire outfit defensively sound.
Sheffield United travel to South Wales to take on Swansea City in their second fixture of the 2025-26 season, desperately needing a result to make up for the mauling they suffered on the opening weekend.
Meanwhile, the summer transfer window continues to tick down, and Jack Robinson’s future is currently up in the air, with Championship new-boys Wrexham reportedly lining up an ambitious swoop for the 27-year-old, as per The Sun.
Robinson only featured off the bench for the Blades last weekend, with Selles confirming it was due to his inability to play a part in their last two pre-season games.
With this news in mind, Lee Hendrie has weighed in with his thoughts over whether a Robinson switch to Wrexham will happen before the 1st September deadline.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, ex-Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes that a Jack Robinson move to Wrexham won’t happen, with the defender needed to shore up the backline in the Steel City after their mishaps against Bristol City.
Hendrie said: "I think this would be a really good signing for Wrexham if this comes off.
"I know Jack Robinson didn’t start on the weekend, came on as a sub, but I’m not sure this will happen.
"Having watched the Blades over the weekend, seeing their vulnerability defensively and knowing that they’ve got lots of attacking threat, I’d be very surprised.
"With how good he is, his experienced nature, his leadership, I can’t see this happening. I think if Sheffield United did allow this to happen then I’d see this as a real negative step for them and a positive one for Wrexham.
"They’ve (Sheffield United) lost Ahmedhodzic, who was a big player for them, and if they let Jack Robinson go at this crucial time when they really showed that they weren’t good enough, then the alarm bells would be going off."
Sheffield United were a complete mess at the back against Bristol City, with the defeat largely down to an inexperienced backline and too much of an attacking midfield.
Sydie Peck was left badly exposed in the middle of the park by those selections and centre-back Rhys Norrington-Davies put in a shocking performance, leading to him being substituted after 57 minutes, which was followed by cheers from his own supporters.
Regardless of not being fully fit, Robinson possesses Championship experience in abundance and should have been one of the first names on the team sheet to offer guile and leadership to what turned out to be a rather rudderless defence.
With Robinson able to offer those qualities, the club shouldn't even be considering to let him leave the club when they are so light at the back, and if a move does materialise, it will be a clear indication of the Blades’ ambitions for this coming season.
