Gareth Bale has fronted a consortium this summer in an attempt to purchase Cardiff City.

The former Real Madrid star recently revealed that his group have tabled a new offer after their opening bid was rejected by current owner Bluebirds Vincent Tan.

Cardiff are still awaiting relevant takeover criteria, such as a heads of terms, proof of funds and full clarity on who is behind the money.

The Bluebirds are also expecting an increase on the initial proposed offer, which is believed to be below £40 million and a long way short of what Tan values the club at.

Cardiff supporters have long grown tired of their current owner, after a series of controversies during his time in control of the club and would be keen to see Bale take them in a new direction.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit and former Aston Villa midfielder, Lee Hendrie, believes that the ex-Wales captain would be a brilliant candidate to take over the Bluebirds.

“The link between Gareth Bale and Cardiff City has been heavy for quite some time now and it doesn’t seem to be dropping away,” stated Hendrie.

“I do think that him taking over from Vincent Tan, it'd be a real good thing for the football club. He's quite clearly showing that he's interested and is incredibly fond of Cardiff City. There's no doubt about that at all.

“His backdrop of where he's actually from, being a Wales boy, I think it'd be a good thing for the football club.

“I think having his name above the front door if you like, it's only going to attract potential. If he's going to come in and try and take the club forward, which I'm sure he will do, I think it'd be a real good opportunity for Gareth.

“It also allows Vincent Tan to step away from Cardiff City, because I think that Gareth would be a real good fit for them and I think he could push the club back to where it should be.”

Vincent Tan will fuel further criticism if Gareth Bale’s approaches are dismissed

Already a polarising figure in the Welsh capital, Tan has enjoyed some positive moments whilst in control of Cardiff, including two promotions to the Premier League.

However, the Bluebirds’ relegation to League One represents their low point of the 21st century, which would provide the 73-year-old with a perfect opportunity to hand the club over.

Bale would inject some much-needed enthusiasm back into the Welsh outfit, with his high profile likely to attract more investors and boost Cardiff’s global stature.

Examples such as Birmingham City and Wrexham have shown how quickly this can benefit footballing organisations, which will naturally build excitement among the Bluebirds’ fanbase.

There are still no signs whether Tan will decide to accept Bale’s latest offer, but his refusal to negotiate over the first bid shows that it may be tough for the former Galactico to get a deal over the line.

This will outrage Cardiff supporters, who have grown tired of the Malaysian’s antics.

To avoid this sour end to his reign as the Bluebirds’ owner, Tan must remain fair in discussions with Bale and, when the right offer comes, hand over the club.
