Speaking exclusively with FLW, Don Goodman has been discussing Huddersfield Town's reported interest in Ethan Galbraith.
Don Goodman has praised Huddersfield Town for continuing to show ambition early in the transfer window amid reports of a £2.5m bid being lodged for Leyton Orient ace, Ethan Galbraith.
The Terriers endured a dismal first season in League One after suffering relegation, finishing 10th in the third-tier table, 14 points behind eventual play-off finalists Orient, who ended the season in fine form despite failing to get over the promotion line at Wembley.
Lee Grant has since been installed as Michael Duff's eventual permanent successor at the John Smith's Stadium, with the 42-year-old and his recruitment team in West Yorkshire signalling their intent for a promotion bid extremely early in the off-season.
The versatile Galbraith was one of many shining lights for the O's under Richie Wellens last term, with his ability to feature in defence and midfield a key asset to the East London club, and it is one of many reasons why Town have faced competition from newly-promoted Charlton Athletic and the Addicks' upcoming Championship rivals, Swansea City, for his services.
Huddersfield have already made plenty of waves with their early transfer activity, already recruiting six new incomings in the form of Ryan Ledson, Joe Low, Marcus Harness, Josh Feeney, Murray Wallace and Sean Roughan.
In addition to the plethora of signings which offer a vast amount of quality and experience at third-tier level, it was claimed by Football Insider on June 19th that Town had seen a £1.5m bid rejected for Galbraith's signature, with Charlton and Swansea also seeing bids of their own turned down by Orient.
However, in recent days, journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Huddersfield have returned with a stunning £2.5m offer for the Manchester United academy graduate.
It remains to be seen what the O's stance regarding the Terriers' second offer will be, although Nixon has claimed that if Town were to up their offer by £500,000 to the £3m mark, the club from the capital are likely to accept a departure, whilst Charlton are also unlikely to part with such funds for their transfer target.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Goodman has been impressed with Huddersfield's early-season business, and believes that capturing the Northern Ireland international would only heighten their ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
"I think Huddersfield Town have already highlighted they are properly going for it next season," the Sky Sports pundit claimed.
"Obviously them finishing 10th was really, really disappointing last season, and they capitulated towards the end. So, they're getting their business done early.
"(They've put in) a bid, a massive bid by League One standards for Ethan Galbraith, who was excellent for Leyton Orient last season," Goodman stated.
"It really, really highlights that Huddersfield are very, very ambitious to get to the Championship next season.
"They're going to have to fight off competition. But, it is about showing ambition, and Huddersfield Town are certainly doing that," he concluded.
Terriers owner Kevin Nagle hasn't been afraid to back those in charge of the club since their relegation, as was proven by their recruitment drive in January which saw Joe Taylor and Dion Charles acquired in the attacking department.
The American's drive to succeed will only have been fuelled further after last season's extremely disappointing climax, and a seven-figure capture of Galbraith would be the club's biggest statement so far this summer, especially if competition from Swansea can be fended off, with the South Wales outfit also making numerous exciting additions ahead of the Championship season.
Galbraith registered six goals and as many assists last term, but his biggest asset for any potential new club would be his versatility, featuring predominantly at right-back for Orient in 2024/25, as well as in his natural central midfield position.
Still only 24, the former Manchester United youngster could become a cornerstone piece of Huddersfield Town's future, and potentially land them a big payday in the future if he continues to improve at the rate he has done during his time with Leyton Orient.
