Tottenham are lining up an offer for Benfica striker Haris Seferovic after suffering a blow in their pursuit of Arkadiusz Milik, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The London club have turned their attention to the 28-year-old as they look to bring in a centre-forward before the transfer window closes on 5 October.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Spurs are set to table a loan offer for the Switzerland international with talks planned in the coming days.

Seferovic‘s 45 appearances in all competitions last season yielded nine goals and five assists and helped Benfica to second in the Portuguese top flight.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt, Fiorentina and Real Sociedad forward still has four years remaining on his contract in Lisbon having put pen to paper on a new deal in July 2019.

Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho are in agreement that Spurs need to sign a new striker before the window shuts in less than two weeks time.

Earlier this year the Lilywhites were forced to play without a recognised striker following lengthy injuries to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

The Polish striker was unwilling to come to England to be back up to Kane having played a similar role to Dries Mertens throughout his time at the San Paolo Stadium.

Spurs have bolstered their attack with the addition of Gareth Bale, who joined on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid last week.

The Wales international watched on from the stands today as Newcastle staged a controversial late comeback to draw 1-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
