To say that Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024-25 campaign has been underwhelming would be a bit of an understatement, with the North London side currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table and already out of both domestic cup competitions.
Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Southampton was the first league victory since mid-February with a 4-1 win over another struggling side in Ipswich Town.
Of course, there have been some circumstances that have hindered the progress under head coach Ange Postecoglou with plenty of major injury concerns causing issues.
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Graham Roberts spoke exclusively to EPL Index and shared his thoughts on Postecoglou’s future…
“It has been a difficult season for Tottenham, for sure,” began Roberts, “The league position isn’t great at all and we really need a strong end to the season.
“The injuries to the spine of the team have been really tough,” continued Roberts, “Vicario and both the centre-backs being missing hasn’t been great because they are so crucial to how Spurs play.”

However, despite their obvious domestic struggles, Spurs do still have a chance of winning silverware this season and even securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League through the Europa League.
“Let’s see what happens this week in the Europa League because Spurs are now in a position where, with a full eleven, can give it a real go,” said Roberts.
Tottenham Hotspur face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals, but the Bundesliga side will prove tough opposition for Postecoglou’s men, currently sitting 3rd in the German top division.
This period will be defining for Postecoglou with most of his squad to choose from now, there’s no excuses for poor results and performances.
It’s hard to deny that Postecoglou has been dealt a poor hand in terms of injuries this season, but some would argue that his stubborness and lack of a plan B have also been a hinderence.

Roberts still sees potential in his reign but recognises the frustration amongst the supporters, saying: “At the end of the season I suspect the board to review the season and Ange’s position.”
“There are mitigating circumstances but it’s up to the board to decide what direction they want to go in,” continued Roberts.
“Let’s see what happens but the supporters are getting frustrated now, which is a concern.”
