Trent Alexander-Arnold is back in action and off to a flyer with Liverpool.

After a difficult 2020/21 for player and club, the right-back would have been delighted with the Reds’ opening day 3-0 win at Norwich.

Speaking to OneFootball courtesy of Under Armour shortly before the season kicked off, Alexander-Arnold couldn’t wait for things to get underway and eyed silverware with Liverpool with fans back

“I am just really looking forward to playing again, being back to full fitness and competing for trophies again,” said the right-back, who missed Euro 2020 through injury.

“Our club has the best fans in the world so for me personally it was a huge loss not having them there.  It will be a massive boost for us to have them back.

“I don’t have any personal targets in terms of goals and assists but I will always try to improve on the season before.”

The bar has been set high since his 2019 first team breakthrough, with the Liverpool-born defender supplying goal after goal from the right-hand side of the defence. But that was something he had to learn quickly, having come through the Liverpool academy as a midfielder.

“The transition was tough,” he admits.

“I spent a lot of hours watching clips of different right-backs, studying different ways of defending. I had the fundamentals but I did have to adjust my game a lot.”

Those adjustments have clearly paid off.

As our chat came to a close, we had just three more questions for the 22-year-old: what would he like to add to his trophy cabinet, which former Liverpool player would he choose to play with, and would he plump for Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?

“The World Cup, Steven Gerrard, Lionel Messi.”

So that’s that.
