Darren Bent claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been forced to rip up his original plan for Manchester United attacker Daniel James due to how well he has played.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international revealed he was confident that James was signed from Swansea City with the future in mind rather than there being a belief he could make an instant impact.
The 22-year-old winger has featured 20 times across all competitions this season for Man United and started the clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
Bent also shared that he believes James has fantastic chemistry with attacker Marcus Rashford as he stated that he seems to know where the England international is going to play the ball ahead of time.
“Dan James has, obviously he has performed pretty well, but I’m sure Ole signed him for the future rather than right now, but due to his performances he has been forced to keep putting him in,” Bent told Football Insider.
“Dan James has done really well and you can see his chemistry (with Rashford) as he seems to know where he is going to put it.”
James has scored three goals and registered four assists in his outings for Man United this season, and is fourth in the club’s scoring charts for the current campaign.
The Welsh winger signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils and was Solskjaer first signing as United boss after succeeding Jose Mourinho in the Old Trafford hot seat.
