The Hatters have got off to a strong start following their relegation to the third tier.
Luton Town have laid a strong marker down in League One this season with back-to-back wins to start the campaign.
After the way that the last two seasons have ended, it must be nice for Luton's supporters to have a pair of results to be happy about. Their opening games of the term ended in respective 1-0 and 2-0 wins over AFC Wimbledon and Peterborough United.
Unfortunately, they weren't able to carry this form over to the EFL Cup on Tuesday night when they lost 1-0 to Coventry City.
Their summer recruitment has been seriously strong. They have brought a number of Championship calibre components into Matt Bloomfield's squad and look all set to challenge for the top spots this season.
For Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie, it's no surprise to hear the Hatters being talked about as one of the top contenders in the third tier this season. Even though their two wins haven't come as a result of blisteringly good performances, winning is no bad habit to have, and they have something to build on.
Indeed, Hendrie believes that Luton will "definitely get promoted" - even if they will face stiff competition in what's poised to be a competitive and high-quality campaign at the top-end of the League One table, with the likes of Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Leyton Orient and Stockport County all vying for a ticket to the Championship, too.
"Yeah, Luton this season, obviously the firm favourites to know back up for obvious reasons," Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
"[They've suffered] back-to-back relegations, the budget that they have this season. They've obviously lost players but recruited well enough. Yeah, you can see why [they'd be among the favourites].
"The first game of the season, I'm not saying that by any stretch they looked the finished article. I think it's going to take a little bit of time for some players to maybe find out partnerships, developments.
"What you do feel that, even then, you're getting results. Two wins out of two is massive. It brings momentum. It brings confidence, even though they, for me, didn't play particularly well in that first match against Wimbledon.
"I thought they really pushed them to it, but this is a sign of a good team. You know, you're staying in games, you work, you get your rewards, you get your luck and I do think that Luton will definitely get promoted this season.
"I think that with their squad depth they should definitely [get promoted], and that's why they're firm favourites."
The Hatters' opening matches may have sent a little reality check to any of the players or supporters who were thinking that the 2025/26 campaign would be like a nice canter through the park. The years that other relegated clubs have spent in this division has proven how tough it can be to get out of it.
The teams who are fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the division will give the former Premier League outfit plenty of challenges throughout the season, as will their promotion competitors.
Huddersfield Town have had arguably a better transfer window than Luton and have also got six points on the board already. Stockport County and Barnsley have the potential to push Town too. This promotion goal won't be an easy one for the Hatters to achieve.
