Lee Hendrie has given his verdict on whether Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic would be a good appointment for Hull City.

Pundit Lee Hendrie believes Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic could be a good replacement for Ruben Selles at Hull City.

Selles only left his role at Reading to take over at Hull in December, but despite achieving his objective of keeping the club in the Championship, owner Acun Ilicali decided to part company with the Spaniard last week.

With the Tigers only avoiding relegation on goal difference, Ilicali insisted that he could not be "satisfied" with that outcome, and while he described Selles "a fantastic guy and a good coach", he admitted that he was "not happy about the general picture".

Despite suffering relegation to League One with Plymouth this season, Muslic earned plenty of admirers for the improvement he oversaw at Home Park after replacing Wayne Rooney in January, with the 42-year-old leading his side to eye-catching victories over West Brom, Norwich City, Sheffield United and Coventry City in the league, as well as knocking Premier League champions Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Hendrie admitted that he has been impressed by the job Muslic has done at Plymouth in difficult circumstances, and he insisted that he deserves an opportunity to remain in the Championship amid speculation linking him with Hull.

"Hull City are looking for a replacement for Ruben Selles, and Miron Muslic has been heavily linked with the job," Hendrie said.

"Would he be an upgrade on Selles? He did well this season, I must admit.

"He came in as a bit of an unknown, we didn't know an awful lot about him, but there was obviously something there that Plymouth looked at and felt he was capable of stepping into a Championship role.

"I do think he's done a fantastic job and surprised a hell of a lot of people, and he's very good when he's in front of the cameras.

"He came into a football club that was trying to survive, and he had one target for where he wanted to go and what he wanted to achieve, which was to keep Plymouth up, but I think it's different when you have a full season.

"I did like his tactical ways, he was defensive-minded and won some really, really big games that gave Plymouth half a chance of getting out of it.

"My thoughts on Hull are that I just think it's crazy, they need to stick with someone who is going to give them some sort of platform to build from.

"Muslic has dropped out of the Championship, but why shouldn't he have a taste of jumping back in again?"

Miron Muslic may have big Acun Ilicali concern amid Hull City talk

Despite being unable to prevent Plymouth's relegation, Muslic's stock is currently high, and after proving himself in the Championship, he would certainly be a strong appointment for Hull.

However, the Pilgrims have recently appointed Tom Randle, who previously worked with Muslic at Cercle Brugge, as their new Head of Recruitment, showing that they are determined to keep him at the club, and he must decide whether to swap a relatively stable environment at Home Park for the chaos of the MKM Stadium.

Hull have now gone through three managers in just over a year, and as Ilicali made clear after the sacking of Liam Rosenior last May, he expects his manager to deliver both results and attacking football, so Muslic may have reservations about working under the Tigers chief.
