Former Sheffield United striker Brian Deane has outlined the Blades' chances of surviving in the Premier League next season, if they win promotion
Sheffield United legend Brian Deane has weighed in on the club's chances of surviving in the Premier League, in the event that the South Yorkshire club win promotion this term.
Despite Monday night's 3-1 home defeat to title rivals Leeds United, the Blades still occupy an automatic promotion spot and sit two points clear of third-place Burnley with just 12 Championship games left to play.
The Blades' last venture into the Premier League came just last season, but Chris Wilder's men endured a woeful campaign, and finished bottom of the table after winning a mere 16 points all campaign.
The Bramall Lane club were also relegated from the top-flight back in 2021, so if they do win promotion from the Championship this year, they will be hoping to make a far better account of themselves next term.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World via the home of Crypto Casinos, the former Blades striker said: "It’s going to depend on the investment they make and on the recruitment.
"Recruitment is one thing and investment is a completely separate thing.
"You have to get players who can play in that division, and you can’t talk about developing players in the Premier League, but (you) have to have every aspect of your signings right to give yourself a chance.
"The last time they went up they sold (Iliman) Ndiaye and (Sander) Berge and I think they are asking for trouble if they do that again, and it was a really poor season.
"Everybody was deflated down at the club before the season even started, selling our two most valuable assets and then going into a Premier League season.
"It doesn’t really make sense, and I was wholly disappointed.
"Like I said, the recruitment and investment will be key, but recruitment is going to be more important than simply throwing money at the situation."
Both of the Blades' recent relegations from the Premier League back to the Championship came under the stewardship of former club owner Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad Al Saud.
But back in December, American businessman duo Steve Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy completed their takeover of the South Yorkshire outfit, and pledged to bring Premier League football to Bramall Lane on a consistent basis.
As alluded to by Deane, the club's decision-making in the transfer market under Prince Abdullah was partly responsible for their most recent relegation from the top-flight.
Whereas during the January transfer window, Rosen and Eltoukhy enabled boss Wilder to make additions which were seemingly a nod towards a future in the Premier League.
For example, the Blades signed Hamza Choudhury, who boasts plenty of top-flight experience, on loan from Leicester City and retain the option to acquire his services on a permanent basis.
If the Blades go on to win promotion to the Premier League, supporters will be hopeful that Rosen and Eltoukhy will stick to their commitment to bringing consistent top-tier football to Bramall Lane.
