Exclusive says Chelsea have made player “untouchable” – but it’s not for football reasons

Chelsea are getting into gear for a busy summer.

They’ve already made some really impressive and important signings, and look to have more to come. On the sales front, things got into gear in the last two weeks with the sales of Djordje Petrovic and Noni Madueke, and we suspect that things will get even hotter now.

One rumoured departure has been that of backup defender Tosin Adarabioyo, but according to an exclusive from the Sun today, that’s not on the cards. Crystal Palace and West Ham are interested, but Chelsea have made it clear that the defender is not for sale.

Why Chelsea don’t want to shift 27 year old defender

The reason is not just that Tosin is a solid backup defender who did well whenever called upon by Enzo Maresca last season. It’s also the intangibles he brings. At 27 he’s one of the oldest in the squad, and ever since he joined a year ago from on a free transfer from Fulham we’ve heard about how important he is for the dynamics and harmony of the group.

That’s especially important for Cole Palmer, who is an old friend of Tosin’s. Keeping Palmer happy and in a good place mentally is obviously a huge priority for the club at the moment, and keeping his mate around will only help that.

The fact he’s liked by the rest of the squad and Maresca, is on reasonable wages and provides some leadership to a young group is just a bonus.

Tosin stay could spell bad news for fan favourite

The bad news for some Chelsea fans is that Tosin staying would make it more likely that academy produced favourite Trevoh Chalobah leaves. Right now there doesn’t feel like much risk of that, but if a top central defender joins (we’re being heavily linked with Jorrel Hato) that could become more likely.
