Exclusive: Robinson surprised by Liverpool player who excelled despite ‘tough task’ v City | OneFootball

Paul Robinson admitted he was surprised that Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren handled the task of stopping Manchester City attacker Sergio Aguero on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham keeper claimed Lovren had one of his better games for the Reds as he usually always gives his opponent a chance to score.

The 30-year-old centre-back didn’t make Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad for the first six league games of the season but has played every minute of the club’s last three Premier League outings.

Robinson acknowledged that Lovren’s display against Man City was surprisingly good as he managed to stay focus for the full match, which is something he doesn’t normally do.

When asked if Lovren did surprisingly well when tasked with stopping Aguero, Robinson told Football Insider: “Yeah he did, it was one of his better games in a Liverpool shirt.

“I think he was focused, he knew there was a tough task in hand and he stayed concentrated for the full 94, 95minutes, which sometimes isn’t always the case.

“As he’s always going to give you a chance, and normally there is a lapse in concentration but I think it was one of his better games in a Liverpool shirt.”

Lovren has played 176 for the Reds, scoring seven goals and racking up for assists, since arriving at Anfield from Southampton in 2014.

The Croatian enforcer is contracted to stay with Liverpool until 2021 with his last contract extension taking place in April 2017.
