In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Newcastle United Hall of Famer Rob Lee has claimed he can’t understand why his former club isn’t able to be sold on the quiet like everyone else.

Newcastle’s potential takeover, which was being led by Amanda Staveley, has been going on for over 12 months now with Mike Ashley accepting their offer of £300 million in April last year.

Ashley has owned the club since 2007 and his relationship with Newcastle supporters has seemingly deteriorated every year with several protests occurring to try and force the Sports Direct tycoon out of Tyneside.

Speaking on how plenty of clubs get sold all the time and why it can’t be that difficult to sell a football club, Lee exclusively told FFC:

“Clubs get bought and sold all the time so I don’t know why we’re so different and what makes it so difficult. Maybe I’ll set up my own estate agency where if you want to sell a club you just stick it on a website and there’s the price.

“It would show you what you get for buying the club. This is the squad you’d get and you can pay this much for the training ground or the stadium and it could just show everyone what you get and tell people that this is the price – either pay it or don’t.”

It is not the first time Staveley has fronted a consortium to try and buy the Magpies as she was branded a time waster by Ashley back in 2018 as she launched three unsuccessful bids to buy the club.

Ashley is still reportedly confident that his lawyers will win the arbitration battle against the Premier League, which is due to take place in the coming months.
