Michael Brown believes Leeds United should be prioritising buying “first team” players, following reports the Whites are set to sign Fulham starlet Cody Drameh.

The former Leeds midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, declared the proposed swoop for the youngster is “a good deal” but insisted Bielsa should be prioritising Premier League-ready players.

Football Insider revealed on Friday that Drameh is one of three signings Leeds are set to announce.

The deals are in the final stages and set to be announced within the coming days, but Brown believes “there’s a time” to do these deals.

“I think you’ve got to try and do that as a club but ultimately there’s a time to try and do that,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Leeds United’s first priority now, although this is a really good deal is to buy players for the first team and try to improve it to get a really successful start in the Premier League.”

Leeds have reportedly identified Wigan’s Joe Gelhardt and Drameh as two young players who can make a big impact in Marcelo Bielsa’s youth-oriented squad.

The Argentinian places a big emphasis on developing young starlets and nurturing those who can meet his exacting and demanding requirements.

Drameh is yet to make his senior professional debut for the Cottagers but has bagged himself an array of admirers for his stellar displays at age-group level for both club and country.

His current club joined the Whites in sealing promotion to the Premier League last Tuesday.

Scott Parker’s side overcame West London rivals Brentford in the Championship play-off final to book a place at England’s top table.

It was far more routine for Bielsa’s men, who bagged the second-tier title with two games to spare, finishing 10 points clear of nearest challengers West Brom.
