Michael Brown has admitted Manchester City could get a bargain by triggering Douglas Luiz’s £25million buy-back clause at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former City and Tottenham midfielder has suggested all the signs point to the 22-year-old rejoining his old side in 2021.
The Daily Star report that City are considering triggering the £25million buy-back clause in the defensive midfielder’s contract at the end of the season after they sold him to Villa for £15million last summer.
Having sold the Brazilian to Villa last year, Brown believes their buy-back clause could prove to be a steal.
Brown told Football Insider: “As you can see, Manchester City, you’ve always got to find a pathway as a player, it’s not always at the first club.
“It’s about playing and they’re sometimes blocked where you come through and it’s how you find your way. We’ve seen many players go to different clubs, do different things along the way, get playing in the Premier League and end up at the top of it. He’s been great.
Luiz has played 51 times for Villa since joining the club and has started every single Premier League game this season.
Asked if he thought £25million was less than Villa would want to sell for, Brown said: “I think you know the answer to that – £25million is extremely cheap if is that the buyout.
“The way it’s heading, he’s going to become a Manchester City player, how long we’ll see.”
