A City source has told Football Insider that Rodri has agreed a contract that will run until the end of the season.

It will bring to an end the Championship club’s pursuit of a new centre-forward after loanee Benik Afobe suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Manager Lee Johnson has given the go-ahead for the capture of Rodri after short-term moves for Wilfried Bony and Gary Hooper failed to get off the ground.

The former Spain Under-21 international has an impressive CV that includes spells at Sevilla and Barcelona B.

He has spent the majority of his career in the Spanish second tier but also has 46 matches in La Liga under his belt, which yielded 11 goals.

Rodri also has experience of the Championship after a brief stint on loan at Sheffield Wednesday during the 2012-13 season.

He is available as a free agent after being released by Granada in the summer following their promotion to La Liga.

He scored five goals in 33 appearances in the Segunda Division, from 17 starts.

Rodri is set to compete for a place in Johnson’s attack along with regular trio Famara Diedhiou, Andi Weimann and Antoine Semenyo.
