EXCLUSIVE: Luis Suárez on Abraham, Lautaro and Griezmann's struggles | OneFootball

Luis Suárez knows a thing or two about the art of goalscoring.

The Barcelona hitman has been operating at the top of his game for nearly a decade now, netting 187 goals during his time at Camp Nou and becoming one of the club’s greatest ever strikers.

Designed especially for strikers, Suárez will be wearing Puma’s new Future 5.1 boots for the remainder of the season and spoke exclusively to Onefootball at their official launch.

We started by asking the Uruguay international who he rates as the best forward in world football right now?

“There are many young strikers who are playing very well this season,” Suárez said.

“Personally, I have certain number of young and old strikers that I like to see them because of their skills. For example, I like Abraham, Chelsea’s No9. In my opinion he is an incredible striker with a good finishing and who moves incredible despite of his youth.

“Another one is Maxi Gómez and not only because he is from Uruguay, but also because he has a lot of characteristics and skills which are the ones that big teams are looking for in one striker. Obviously, Lautaro Martínez is playing at high level this season too…”

Martínez has been a revelation at Inter so far this season, earning rave reviews for his performances at San Siro and forming a deadly partnership with Romelu Lukaku.

There have been strong rumours that the Argentine forward could join Barça next summer but does Suárez see the 22-year-old joining the Blaugrana?

“It would depend on certain circumstances and what Barcelona needs because maybe at that moment Barcelona has already a good and young striker.

“However, he is an incredible striker who is playing extremely well but we cannot forget he belongs to Inter nowadays…”

The first initial colourway for the Future 5.1 boots are sky blue – the same as his beloved Uruguay – but Suárez insisted that is purely a coincidence.

“Antoine [Griezmann] said the same to me,” he laughed. “Honestly, I have nothing to do with. Puma chooses different colours and we have to adapt with them. That’s truth that and in this occasion they choose a nice one but in other occasions will come other ones”

Team-mate and strike partner Griezmann is another man who will be wearing Puma’s latest boots this term.

Griezmann joined Barcelona in the summer and has endured a relatively difficult start to life with the club, but Suárez is confident that his French team mate will come good sooner rather then later.

“Obviously that’s not easy for any player to start here in Barcelona,” Suárez admitted.

“You need time in order to adapt. It takes time and matches and you are feeling better and feeling that your teammates are supporting you but it is necessary to understand that he is not playing in his previous position and he is the one who is making a big effort to adapt what Valverde is asking for. I did it too as well as Philippe [Coutinho], Neymar or Ousmane [Dembélé].

“Every player who arrives in Barcelona has a difficult first months and first matches … people are looking at you with detail because what Barcelona means but he is quiet and confident because he has our support to play his best football.”

Barcelona are currently top of LaLiga and face a crunch match this weekend against title challengers Atlético Madrid.
